Student Work Program

Clean BathroomThe student work program is an important tradition at Oneida. On average students work ten hours a week at a designated job. These jobs help young people develop a sense of responsibility and provide them with valuable work experience.

Students may work in the dormitories or school buildings cleaning rooms and restrooms. Some of the boys may work on the yard crew, which mows and cleans the campus grounds. Many of the girls work in the dining hall and kitchen to clean up after the meals. Other assignments may be in the campus grill or on the school’s farm. Participation in a varsity sport or some fine arts clubs, such as drama and pep band, may qualify as a student’s job.

Young_SweeperWhile both the school and students benefit from the work program, the main goal is for the students to experience the feeling that comes from a job well done. Taking pride in the work they do on the job, no matter how simple, can help build their confidence in other ventures.
